Spraying Gel Coat

Hi

Has anybody had any experience using airbrush to spray gel coat

Tnks

No, but I've seen it done and it's now very commonly done. At the Arno Leopard factory I say them spray white gelcoat onto marine ply furniture then polish it and it looked like it had been cast in a perfect mould. A neighbour boat in Antibes recently had a scratch and scuff and the repairers sprayed gelcoat on the damged patch then polished it off to make a perfect repair. So it's pretty common technique

they arent that easy to use. Maybe thats a bit unfair.. maybe I should say, there is a bit more skill than just switching on and squirting. And the smaller compressors are really for fine detail work, as otherwise the pressure drops, and then it all goes sour.
There are different airbrushes for different techniques, and then different nozzles for different brushes, and then you need to adjust it all to the "thickness" of the medium... and so on.
I doubt one of these small ones would be up t the job. A top brush can be £00's, for example, so maybe more a car type sprayer is whats needed.

Hi

I only have small areas to spray

I have stains on the rough gell coat so I cannot M3/TCut or sand

I will loose finish

That is why I want to spray

So looking for help !!!!!!!!!!!

I might be wrong, but I cant think that you can use gel like a spray paint, if thats what you are thinking. You can spray it, but only as a (skilled) method of building up a thickness-like several mm.
I guess you ve already tried the various stain removers, then, with no joy?

Last weekend tried Y10 and then Oxacil Acid but still no joy.

I am getting closer to spray by the minute.

I have had teak decking put on side gangways brilliant and stains gone

I still have a few on front deck but cost to teak a new boat cheaper.

I can get rid with 1200 but as said it is on rough gel coat and dont want to have patches of smooth bits on deck !!!!!!!!
