According to reviews I read in the past these are an aid to survival . Only problem now is sourcing a dealer or manufacturer of these things - any ideas/contacts or views on these items of kit?
The seago hood should be capable of fit to most other lifejackets. They are a very good idea, cause in really bad conditions with a lot of driven spray, iy is entirely likely that you will drown due to the spray unless you have this hood.
IMHO, hoods and lights should be a standard part of the lifejacket.
Cosalt Portishead - ask for Kevin - here's a link for a lot more - Cosalt do the Crewsaver lifejacket 275N with crotch strap and sprayhood - vital in the rough
I bought some a few months ago from The Marine Warehouse along with some new lifejackets. The sprayhoods were Baltic and appear to be a universal fit. The only disadvantage is that they add a bit of bulk to the neck area. They fit both the Marine Warehouse lifejackets and my old XM lifejackets.

Crewsaver lifejacket 275N with crotch strap and sprayhood - vital in the rough

Having done many sea survival schools, I am hoping to purchase a couple of these at Libs next week. Spray hood is invaluable, plus strobe light. Full harness & Hammar option preffered.
The ones we have clip on the belt and are velcor quick release - the front of the little pack they're in is left hinged and the sprayhood drops out but remains still attached by a bit of string
Crewsaver give you a sprayhood on the top-end version of their lifejacket. I have a couple and while I'm sure the hood would be useful when in the water it is a complete menace when sailing. The little Velcro pocket that it is kept in springs open at the lightest touch and then snags on anything and everything. Unfortunately the only way to remove the spray hood it to cut it off the belt - something I have now done. It may be worth thinking about this if you are looking at life jackets.
FWIW - apart from the problem above I think Crewsaver lifejackets are very well made and great products.
Last time I looked at SIBS they were about £120, £10 off at the show.
I must say I have never had a problem with the sprayhood pack, but the Velcro on the 'stole' seems a bit inadequate, it is a pain when that comes loose. Still a good lifejacket, will get two more at LIBS. SWMBO finds the adjustable belt position a real benefit.
We bought 2 top of the range Baltic lifejackets with light whistle hood etc, at SIBS 2006. I started out wanting to buy the Crewsaver, but after comparing the two went for the Baltic. The hood is already attached to the collar of the jacket and is unobtrusive, so you only have to pull it over your head. I can't imagine removing a hood from a little pocket and deploying it whilst in the sea.
The Baltic jackets are not available with hamar (spelling) activation. When I asked about this the Baltic lady ( tall blond, gorgeous /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif(not)) told me that that Baltic are still not 100% happy with the system. Well that's what they told me.
