Hi All
Does anyone know of a "spray"on insulation type foam . The builders type foam doesn't "spray" but gloops out and runs all over the place . Is there such a product out there??
Any info would be appreciated

Regards Terry

Used the spray insulation last year, it was OK for large areas like under the forward berths but I found the spray gun too big to spray inside lockers as I couldn't get it far enough away when trying to spray under the side decks. Also as soon as you stop it sets in the nozzle. It would be great for a bare hull before fitting out. Eventually I lined the lockers with thin ply and filled the space behind with the foam which is neater but making the lining takes time.

Ah the area involved is up under the side deck . Your idea of panelling out and "back" foaming seems as if it may work .

Beware of foam even though it says it is closed cell foam as it can end up as a soggy mess full of water and oil which it holds onto and in less accessible places can sit and stink the boat out for years. Yes I have had experience of it and even when I thought I had got rid of it all there was still some out of sight smelling of diesel.

That's what I also heard but are we really talking about the same product?

Will the foam absorb water?

No, it has an extremely low permeability rating because of the closed-cell structure. It is often used in flotation applications because of this. At a depth of 3 inches, it is a vapour barrier.

If you're right the above claim from the manufacturer's website would be misleading and to say the least? Otherwise why read data sheets at all? Wouldn't it be a breach of warranty if the product did absorb water?

Had my steel boat sprayed 18 months ago.

I got people in to do it and I am glad I did. I was a messy job and under the deck heads it looked like a cave of stalagmites. I took 3 weeks to clean it all up. I do most things my self but This and grit blasting are the things I would not do.
