spray hood hooks

While sailing last weekend the genoa sheet caught one of our spray hood downward facing hooks, twice!

Twice we looked like idiots as the boat stopped half way through going about and slid back again with sheets and sail flapping in the wind.

Is there a hook that can hold a rubber loop as we use (looks like a lollipop) but can be closed when not in use, i.e. go flat or not present an open hook to catch sheets.... one day it might be more serious than just ballsing up a tack!

Thank you in advance, this forum usually comes up trumps!

Hi jools, we use a hook attachment for our sprayhood the rubber bit , looks like a lollipop and the lollipop circle goes over a plastic hook which looks like a shepards crook which once the rubber is off the hook it is closed and vice versa, that is about it , if you are not having any luck finding any type of solution i will photo it and send to your email on your website, hope you can understand my description,
the sprayhood was made by lambs sailmakers of liverpool, the chandlery has closed down but the sailmakers are still in operation somewhere near the marina entrance, maybe another forumite might know the phone number or address, and they might know what you require..
if no joy get back to me and i will post as much info as i can gather for you.

They made and fitted a cockpit sprayhood to my Konsort Duo (before I purchased her) and fitted small grooved buttons for the bungees to go over. Nothing can catch on them as they are surface fitting and look like a small model car (Dinky/Corgi) wheel (without tyre) in plastic.

I've not seen anything like them in chandlers, so it might be worth your while to contact them.

I think what you are describing for Jools, are lacing buttons. They are available in SS and nylon from Baseline (page 74 in my copy of their catalogue). Hope this helps.

Thank you everyone for the advice, I will look into it after the bank holiday week as we are hoping to be away for a week, if the weather is favorable!

A weeks trip around Anglesey and Straights, find those quiet anchorages I hope!
