spotted a bmc 1500 diesel

Hasn't run in 4 years...bit of a risk
I wouldn't buy a second-hand engine unless it was guaranteed a good runner
unless for spares.
 
these engines are very reliable cheap to run and spares are available if I were looking for one I'd grab it especially because its not been in a boat, hence my putting it on here
 
I don't see what use it is ? It's not been marinised and even if it had been it would not fetch £500 (my Thorneycroft didn't). You can buy a rebuilt, fully marinised Thorneycroft for £2500, personally I would do that rather than mess around trying to source a heat exchanger etc and spend umpteen hours rebuilding it.
