Looking to get your opinions, good and bad, on the following boats:

- Rodman 800
- Beneteau Antares Serie 9
- Hardy Fishing 24

Which one would have the best long term residual value?

Thanks

Can you be more specific about what you are looking to do in the boat, and where? Also with regards to residuals very very dificult for this type of craft because of the small size of the market. These are not volume boats in the UK market. If you log onto any European boat brokerage site you will get a good indication of prices being asked http://ybw.yachtworld.com/core/uk/listing/pl_boat_detail.jsp?currency=EUR&units=Meters&checked_boats=1159968&&ybw=true and forget residuals - someone else has met them and added all the bits you could ever want (except tackle and bait). Both the others are more mini weekenders / cruisers with the family in mind.

I cant speak of the other two, but a friend has a Fishing 24 with the extended wheelhouse. It it very sturdily built and feels safe when moving around the decks etc. The enclosed wheelhouse also feels secure- but there is very little internal acomodation perhaps when compared with the other two, and can feel quite claustraphobic- especially when the weather is fine outside. It also does not have a separate heads, which I think is a shame for a boat of this size. The galley is housed behind and under the co-pilot seat, and the fit out is simple but good.

The Hardy is outdrive powered, whereas I believe the others are shaft driven. I would imagine that the Hardy may appeal more to serious Anglers, due to its large deck/sidedeck area. I drive a Land-Rover Defender, and I could liken it to that- Its built like a tank, will last well, and can take abuse in its stride- just dont expect Range Rover fit-out! The Rodman and Beneteau may well have a wider audience to sell on in the future, as both are more suited to cruising and Fishing and will have more internal space for families etc.

Others here may point out other features, these are only my observations from spending time on the Hardy. All three will have merits based on individual requirements.

Good luck

B

Yep - it's a guys go fishing boat rather than a family/dad likes to fish boat.
Personally I like the earlier 905 Antares or the 10.80. From the Rodmans the 1120 is nicely proportioned and great sea keeping but light on family accomadation for the size of boat so sdoesn't sell on well apparantly.
Stay with my 780 Faeton for a bit longer !
