Hi All,

Just picked up a couple of Instant Fisherman 2's (nifty collapsible rods) and I would like to get a bit of fishing done this Sunday somewhere in the Solent.

However seeing as we are onboard a still shiny Princess V39, I'm a bit concerned about drifing about or anchoring near some rocks.

Does anyone on here get a spot of casual fishing done off their 42ft Plus size boats?

I would ideally like to get a mooring buoy and do it in the safe knowledge I wont find myself drifting towards the usual Sunday family chaos.

Have a look on my web site for fishing marks in the Solent area, and there is an article on fishing from a yacht as well. This time of year you will catch bream over rocky marks, or you can drift for mackerel in plenty of safe places from late May onwards. Many charter boats are 40 footers so it is not length that matters! It is knowing the best spots to fish and most of those are not on top of drying rocks. Hope tyat helps.

Based on your site, we are Going for Stokes Bay this Sunday for safety and simplicity. Any advice or anything to watch out for?

Use frozen squid for bait (thawed) and you may pick up smoothhound which will be a bit of fun. There is a plague of tiny whiting around who will snaffle small baits. If you can find a rocky lump to anchor over using the fishfinder you may be lucky and catch a bream on a small hook and small strip of squid bait. Lots of things turn up in Stokes Bay, you just never know! Good luck.
