I have a Hood 23 with a spongy deck. I have thought about filling the void between the two GRP layers with DIY polyurethane foam but I am worried this will not be strong enough.
It is not concerning me enought to pull the boat apart or spend a fortune on.
Any simple solutions?
Thanks

There aren't any simple answers I'm afraid, I have heard of people drilling holes all over the place then injecting epoxy, with slow hardener, but with mixed results, DIY foam doesn't sound much like a solution to what is a pretty bad situation, you must whatever you do dry out the voids and core before trying anything, sorry I can't be of any real help.

Did this with my Scampi which was quite bad.Lot of water between layers.Drilled holes in top layer(deck)app every foot then injected with foam.Used about 2 of the larger tins you get from DIY stores Entirely successful.Drove out all the water and has done a good job for 2 seasons now.One snag.it comes out everywhere after injecting and you must take care to try to inject evenly or your deck will look like an advert for tyres.

Drill holes, let dry out, fill with neat epoxy, fair, paint.. Its not that hard ( really ). ALSO FIND OUT WHERE THE WATER IS GETTING IN !!!! if you don't fix it, you will be very worried in a few years.. Plus you will need to fix it when you sell it anyway......

The balsa in my previuos boat was completely rotted due to earlier atempts at fitting a teak deck . The problem was so bad that I had to cut the outer skin open, dig out the mush that used to be the core and clean thorougly .The I used plywood for core bedded in epoxy putty and laminated over. After fairing and paintig it was impossible to see the repair.A lot of hard work though.
