splutter when full power

We put our 19ftTahoe bowrider with 3.0 mercruiser back in the water today. It started first time on flush muffs and went fine whilst on low revs. When we tried to open it up it kept spluttering as it picked up revs. When we got ut wide open it would only get to 3000 revs.

Anyone know the most likely cause?

Choke stuck.

check the distributor cap and rotor , and if its got them , the points.

Fuel starvation. Check that air is getting into the fuel tank adequately, otherwise you will have a full or partial vacuum in the fuel tank preventing the fuel from flowing out properly.

Thanks for the help. I'm going to try carb cleaner down the air intake to see if it revs healthily. That should tell me if it is fuel or spark related.
