try and find "silage tape". Thick, very very strong, and sticky, and resistant to UV.

All farm supplies shops.

Why do you need to tape them? On mine, the clevis pins are all put in so that no sheets etc can catch on the split pins, and the ones that stop the rigging screws from slackening off, are bent in a way that no ends can catch anything. IMHO it's better to be able to see them.

There is always the odd one that will catch a bit of line or something. I've just taped over the ones on my mast today in case the leech of the sail catches one. I use self-amalgamating tape. It lasts for a few years if it isn't abraded.

Not sure about taping - I prefer to be able to see them and inspect regularly. I the sharp ends face downwards or inboard they are less likely to catch on anything imho

Quite so. The trick to split pins is to bend them out by 90° about half way along the exposed end, then bend again at the pin. Now the sharp ends are facing the pin, and cannot snag.
