Afternoon all,

I have a 1 1/2" diameter 8ft wooden spinnaker pole for my 23ft sailing boat.

I need to add simple fittings to connect the uphaul / downhaul. Can anyone suggest a simple setup for this? The pole's only current fittings are a sprung pin at each end, connected by release chord.

As ever, all contributions are appreciated.

rgds,

Nick

I think you will need to add bridles as the wooden pole will not take the bending load if you fix the uphaul and downhaul to fittings in the middle.
I take it the pole itself is solid wood with the end fittings screwed to the outside at each end. Use the existing fixings to fit hoops at each end and rig bridles between them, one above the pole and one below. Fix your uphaul and downhaul to the middle of each bridle.
By using bridles you will keep the pole in compression.

Yep, that's the kiddy. Many thanks for that. I'll give it a crack. :)

If you are not adverse to carbon fibre or GRP a visit to a wind surfer supplier or renter might produce a broken wind surfer mast.
This can be used for spin pole at a fraction of the weight. Don't be dismayed that it has a taper that doesn't really matter even for a symetric pole . It might look a bit odd but works brilliantly good luck olewill

Useful things old windsurfer masts. A lump lying around in the club compound saved my bacon when the rudder tube disintegrated as I refitted my rudder a week before lift in a few years back. A piece of copper tube had lasted for nearly 40 years. I reckon the epoxy mast section will see me in my box and probably my kids too, if the boat lasts that long!
