My boat has been bouncing around in the Medway since mid May. Circumstance dictates that she has not been used much. The other day, when I went out to lovingly stroke her ivory thighs, I noticed a few cobwebs. Where in the H*LL do they come from, swimming spiders!?

Just interest really as I despatch them to the deep as I find them.

If you've ever tried to wash a spider down the plughole at home, then you'll realise that just throwing them over the side isn't going to work. They just hang onto the mooring buoy until you return and creep back on board at night.
We used to have one that lived inside the CQR. A big black one, and I'll swear that once it crawled out from under the anchor after I'd pulled it back on board. I think it moved onto a larger boat when ours became too small.

I reckon these little monsters have made a home in my little used mainsail (I have roller boom reefing). If they are then when I open the mainsail the little blighters had better be quick. If I see them first I will be over the side and swimming like a three legged frog leaving my son on board to mount the first offensive.

Ken is right , spiders can float on the thermo thingies . In my time ive worked very high up on buildings and have seen spiders float past with nothing to string a web to . Its quite an amazing sight .
