Speedseal tell me that they don't have speedseals for this engine, nor have plans to supply/manufacture any. As this is a very common engine, & their ads. have "Yanmar" plastered on them, I was somewhat surprised & disappointed.

Any one have one they want to get rid of/sell?

Are you sure you want one of these. You wont gain any advantage, your pump is low down with the back plate pointing rearwards under the engine and not very accessible. You need to remove the pump on this engine to get the back plate off for access to the impeller, so speed seal cant help that much, just saves you unscrewing a few more screws.

Very odd, I fitted one about 8 years ago! Mind you on my current 3GM30, I didn't see the point as it's as easy to remove the pump as it is to fiddle around blindly in the back.

I put a speed seal on my last boat which had a 2GM20F. The only benefit was the large thumb screws. I had to change out an impeller and the original screw head stripped - that was when I wanted thumb screws to be able to take it off easier. I still had to take off the pump it just made taking the head off easier. The speed seal has a reusable rubber gasket where the standard factory water pump cover has a paper gasket seal that most likely will rip taking it off. I don't have the boat any more or I'd snap a picture.

Some factory pumps have O-ring seals instead of paper gaskets. The one on our 2GM20 when we bought it did, and so did the one on the replacement pump that my dad bought when we couldn't get the system to stay primed (probably in fact a problem with the filter, not the pump :/)

Thank you all.
The Yanmar 2GM20 pump is indeed awkward to get at (although a hell of a lot easier on a Feeling 286-engine amidships- than the one on the Volvo MD 7 on my much loved though now ex Jaguar 27!)
My thinking was, "anything that may make life easier". Following the replies, perhaps I will leave alone, & just take the pump off each winter.......

Instead of a speed-seal buy a small and neat 1/4" drive socket set. Its partly the answer to faster water pump removal, using spanners is awkward and takes time.
And yes some pumps on Yanmar have an "O" ring instead of a gasket on the back plate, I think it might have to do whether it was a Johnson or Jabsco pump installation.

Thank you, will do, as such a set is kept on board :)
