Its been playing up for a while now on occasions so Santas bringing a new one. Last time it played up was about a month ago coming back from Portishead in patchy mist.

My old lowrance gps died. I tried to resolder the 12v connection but it had broken in the middle of a moulded plug so I couldn't. They wanted nearly £40 for a replacement.

I bought one of these, brand new for £95 off e b y,

http://www.lowrance.com/en/Products/Outdoors/iFINDER-Hunt-C/

and then bought a complete Northern Europe chart from Marinescene for £65. The only 'hunting' stuff in it are a pile of weird animal waypoints, but these are in addition to the normal ones, so what? Screen is cracking, and my eyesight is not the best.

Don't know if this is any good, took it with teh mobile, my camera is on the boat.

"Exclusive, hunting-specific graphic icons for marking tree stands, game signs, ATVs and vehicles"

That should be useful in Cardiff Bay.

But I guess its a good price for a chart plotter.

Have ordered a new Garmin from Marine Scene now. Your Lowrance looks a good bit of kit for the money.

I took the back off my old Magellan last night. All the joints look shiny and intact. The only thing I could do is replace the internal battery ,it shouldnt be too difficult to solder a new one in.

Im not convinced that would fix it as it was still giving stupid positions after I manually entered the lat and long to initialize it.

Aye, I know, that's why I reckon it was cheap, but you don't have to use them. You probably can't make out the picture, but it shows the wrach channel part of Cardiff bay, and you can zoom in on a single lock. It's at least as good as my Garmin chartplotter I bought for my RIB, and I paid a lot more for that, and the chart coverage is from the Faroes to the Azores.

When I showed the chap in Marinescene where I bought the chart, he seemed skeptical too, but I'd read the write up, and it does take the nauticpath charts.

It's this, if you look at it, with a silly camouflaged case, but a hundred quid cheaper.
