Hey all!

Yesterday I was out on Mermaid Quay, when I spotted a speed boat with flames coming out from it's engine! There was a couple of boat owners who turned up to assist the chap. the fire was swiftly brought under control with the use of a single powder fire extinguisher, which the chap seemed to be grateful for. After the event, the owner walked along the pontoons briefly, then left mermaid quay seemingly abandoning the boat!

I would like to say a big thank you to those who helped out with the incident :)

Is the boat still on the pontoon, or has Harbour Patrol been over to take the boat away?

Yes, he was rather 'tipsy'! After the fire was put out, the chap drank 2 bottles of what appeared to be cider for the short walk between his boat and another boat to make a phone call to his mate. He threw one of the empty bottles of booze, which he downed in record time, into the water - bit inconsiderate if you ask me...

The chap also seemed to struggle with understanding basic questions like 'Is your engine petrol or diesel?' and 'Where do you keep you boat?' the second question still remains unanswered! Also was anyone listening to channel 16 not too long after the fire was put out? he was calling his mate, but didn't seem to know what channels to use on a VHF, as he had suggested to him it would be wise to notify Barrage Control to inform them the fire was under control... something he could not comprehend...

His boat was towed away from MQ on friday evening by some friends of his,he seemed to be tipsy according to the fella who put his "fire" out,or maybe it was shock.it was only a bit of smoke coming out of the carb but could have developed into a full blown blaze i suppose.
