Speciality's Yacht pedestal bearing material selection question.

Further to my Edson yacht pedestal bearing post . Now found out the pedestal is a Speciality's Yacht pedestal, a US and out of business company and Edson parts are not compatible. This pedestal does have plain plastic (nylon?) bearings. Now found a UK supplier able to supply a similar plastic bearing in the same sizes. Also found a supplier how can supply the same bearing in Oilte, a sintered phos/bronze bearing material which I have used in work and have experiance with. Any thoughts on chancing from a plastic bearing, which lasted for nearly 30 years to a phos/bronze bearing????
