In a moment of madness (somehow they seem to have increased since buying the boat) I put a diesel soaked sponge on the vinyl cockpit seating, and now have a nice sponge shaped yellow stain.
I've tried bleach, 'stain devil', and all sorts of concoctions but although it has faded, I can't seem to shift it once and for all.
Any ideas?

You need a solvent which will take it out of the vinyl, not bleach which conceals the problem.

acetone (or cheap nail varnish remover)is a first resort, but usual caveat, try it on a hidden bit first. If it's deeply ingrained, then you've got a problem.

Put on small amounts, then dab off stain with clean absorbent kitchen towel. It will take a long time.

Don't be tempted to bung on a whole load of solvent, all you'll get is a nice chromatograph of diesel in vinyl as the solven spreads the diesel stain over a much bigger area
