Spark Plug Test- Whilst Singlehanding

The best way would be with an adjustable spark tester such as Laser 5655 Adjustable Spark Tester - Machine Mart - Machine Mart

You set the gap you want ( About 6 mm for a points ignition, 10mm for cdi ), clip the spark plug lead onto one end and clip the other end to the engine head or block

Then crank the engine

With a little ingenuity, some dry wood and a couple of nails you can improvise.

Wrap some stiff wire (stout paper clip, coat hanger?) around the thread of the plug and make sure the free end of the wire contacts the engine. Maybe even trap it under a bolt. Angle it so you can see the spark while pulling the starter.

A friend of mine got his little sister to hold the plug on his Norton Dominator whilst he kicked it over. When she leapt into the air, he knew there was a spark. I'm not sure if the height that she reached indicated the strength of the spark or not. In the OP's case, he would have to hold it himself or attach it to part of his anatomy.

It,s very easy to make one with an old plug.
This one can be connected directly to the HT cable and to the engine body.
The crankhandle purpose is measuring the spark length. 1 revolution = 1 mm.

I've done the resistance and continuity tests on the plug from my outboard.

But how do I check the spark when its only me ?
How does 'only me' affect things?
What help would an assistant provide? Can't you see the spark? Try at night!
Try a new spark plug, that's the way it's always been done...
