Just had SWMBO on the phone. She went to collect her car after a service and found the bill included 4 new spark plugs for GBP 40. + vat means GBP 11.175 EACH.
I know I have been away a long time but that seems a wee bit pricey. Fortunately I am going back to Scotland in two weeks so I will be going around to a certain garage in Inverness and ripping somebody a new ars**ole !!!
Before I get back could someone tell me how much spark plugs are please?
We are talking about plugs for a wee Skoda not some fancy BMW.

Just bought a set for my V6 VW.

A set of 6 Bosch plug was 17.50 inc VAT that about 3 pounds each.

40pounds seems a bit steep for a set of plugs

at that price they'd better be top-notch precious metal electrode ones.

Plenty of dealers are pushing these heavily on the last-for-years & years bit,(not to mention the extra profit) but they really should ask you first.

try www.sparkplugs.co.uk to check the std fitting & price.

That's about the right price for platignum sparkies, which are appearing in a lot of cars these days. Should last 60K miles so actually work out cheaper than changing standard ones every 12K miles @ £3-4 each. They used to be only in the higher end models (Range Rovers, anything turbo-charged etc.) but are much more widespread now. However that price for standard plugs which are changed every 12K or so is not right. Would suggest asking the question before tearing someone's head off.

I think the biggest problem is that its done under 20 k in 4 years. Always serviced by the same garage so if they fit these super duper expensive crap to a car that does that sort of mileage they need a good talking to. I feel they are extracting the urine.

I think current dealer price is £ 120ish as someone else has said. DOn't forget a TS has 8 of them, Platinum tipped and good for 60K miles.

Just bought 4 for a 1.3 Felicia and they cost me about £2 each after discount - regret I do not have the invoice to hand.

Just to bring this back on topic - having the skip gives monet for boats.

Auto Zone (US) prices
Bosch platinum $1.99
Iridium $12.99
Splitfire $4.99

Even in rip-off UK there shouldn't be that much price difference

You were ripped off.
