I need to book a berth in Real Club Nautico Vigo. Spain
Can someone PM me with some text that I could fax em cos TCM needs to go in as his auto-pilot is not working. ie when he puts it on standby the boat won't steer. I would quite like to tell em that as well so they could perhaps help him in.

BE WARNED - don't accept a tow in Spain because they claim salvage or something like that.

I'm sure TCM's auto pilot is a lot more sophisticated than mine, but it only steers when on auto, when standby is selected it stops steering and waits for new instuctions or sommat.
I've probably got it all wrong but just a thought.

No, you have it right. I was just concerned that TCM may flippantly toss a line to another "helpful" boat only to have them claim salvage. In Spanish waters, this usually ends in extortionate amounts of money changing hands.

Having two engines, he should be able to steer just using the throttles. Eg port engine in reverse and starboard engine in foward and the boat spins on it's own axis. Or port engine in neutral and starboard in forward and you turn to port nice and gently. A nice little feature of owning a catamaran.

and the original question was :

"I need to book a berth in Real Club Nautico Vigo. Spain

... Spanish - speakers may be helpful

Well John it is a bit worse than that, in that the boat won't steer with autopilot off. He is planning to disconnect something I think to enable this normally useful facility. I will warn him about the rope. I am hopeing that the marina people might meet him. But they dont' seem to have any English. I have faxed a note asking for a berth as Dannyl's swmbo pm'd some text, but some more text along the lines I might need help into a berth may be helpful.

Why not head for Bayona, drop the hook and recce ashore via the dink?

tcm can relax in a leather armchairs, drinking a fino brought by one of the hot and cold running flunkies employed by the Monte Real Clube de Yachtes.

Try this

Tengo problema con mi carter de la direccion
I have a problem with my steering control
Nessisito assisitiance a ammarro
I need help to moor
Podria remolcarme hasta un atracadero
Could you tow me to a mooring

It may not be word perfect but they should understand
Good luck...Nat

Sorry to hear abou the hassle Mrs TCM . . . Wish Matt good luck from Fairwinds - we will be passing a lot closer this time than we did in Horta . . . we are planning to leave Camarinas to head N tomorrow.

Thanks all, we seem to have everything under control after all your help.

What next I wonder. I am quite ready to give this shore support up for a game of conkers. I may even have to go back to work for a quiet life!!

If you need a specific text translated, or my services as interpreter, phone me on 605 followed by 71, then 28 and 95. I'm a lot further east than galicia, but am fluent in Spanish.
Today and the next few days I'm out and about, and may only look at this forum late at night, if I have time. However, I always have the phone with me -- I'm on standby, so cannot be out of contact.

Take two aspirin and lie down for 4 hours - I am sure you will feel a lot better afterwards ! (Or substitute a bottle of wine for the two aspirin /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif )
