I know there are various threads on here , anyway my welcoming committee at la pola , miramar included the local tax police looking for 900 euros for my 40 ft boat ,,,,,,,local tax ? Any one any ideas , is this local , can it be avoided ? boat is not chartered , I use it with my family 3 or 4 weeks a year .

I would guess that, as it is Valencia/Alicante region, it is the G5 tax. Seems to me like the approx yearly amount for a 40 footer. Basically you have a non-Spanish thing (a boat) occupying a bit of Spain, albeit on water, and they want you to pay a tax for this. Some regions don't enforce it - others do. What you will find is that whilst you pay the tax in your home port and if you pitch up in another marina for an overnight that they want you to pay, as a visitor, a G5 contribution!!!!!

If you pay by DD then you might get a 20% discount - we did!
