SPADE Anchor Safety WARNING

Your SPADE anchor may be unsafe.

Mechanical failure of a SPADE Anchor was found
by the Maritime Safety Authority of New Zealand to have directly caused the
loss of the yacht "Deep Blue".

Some simple modifications can make a Spade Anchor safe. Please warn your

Wasn't this covered in YM or one of the mags recently with response from supplier - suggestion that it hadn't been correctly assembled ?

Yes, I believe it was. I think that the suggestion from the manufacturer was that a nylock nut had been supplied to lock the shank to the crown. This is an automotive fixing and only designed to be used once then discarded. If the intention is to disassemble the anchor for stowage you either use two nuts locked together or carry a supply of nylocks.

hopefully it will drive the price down a bit so i can buy one, i can't for the life of me see how it could fail in the described manner.....anyway i have no probs with the way its designed, i would buy one tomorrow.............if i could afford it!!!!!!!!!!!!.......keith
