Hey

2nd weekend on the boat, everything is in order for a jolly next weekend until I discovered the Fuel and Water Fillers won't move for toffee :( Bit of a deal breaker :(

I tried all the tricks suggested in the other thread, boiling water, detergent etc. Shall try with a heat gun this weekend.

Question is, has anyone had to replace them? and could someone suggest a good alternative replacement?

I'm guessing replacing them involves unscrewing the cap, taking the jubilee clip off, remove the hose and , then hit the filler cap with a soft mallet from underneath. Replace with new filler cap, fit with some sikaflex and drill some new holes for the screws?

Cheers
Tim

Put a bit of wood on the top of the cap and give it a decent hit with a big hammer, the thread is pulling the cap down to seal, so to break the seal you need to whack it from the top to break the corrosion

i recall correctly there are sa aluminium, penetrating fluid might help to ease them

@sailorman I think they are, what sort of penetrating fluids should I be looking at? I read somewhere that vinegar might do the trick

@TopDonkey cheers shall give it a try, I had a good with a screwdriver and hammer but a bit of wood would probably be a better option.

It will be corroded aluminium plus sticky O ring seal. Boiling water may help break the corrosion as will penetrating oil (not plus Gas), but you probably have to prepare to replace the whole fitting as it is really difficult to get a good purchase on the cap. Just undo the hose inside the boat, take the screws out of the deck and prise the fitting out. There are many suppliers of similar aluminium fittings for replacements. Just make sure you put a smear of vaseline on the threads and regularly undo them, particularly if they are flush with a horizontal deck.
