On Saturday high tide in Southsea Marina will be 04.12 GMT. Access is possible according to the web site for about 3 hours either side, but I'd prefer to leave in daylight, so an hour after high water onwards, (I guess, haven't been up to notice).

All the tide tables and almanac (for last year) are on board, can anyone tell me at what point I should get a west going stream outside Langstone Harbour to join a West going stream in the Solent? (Or best possible option).

I don't know if she'll start yet, deserted all winter, which is why I've no plans to leave on Friday!

Are you sure about your tide times?

According to the Portsmouth Tables HW Saturday is 1139 or Sunday 0004.

Try tables at top of YBW.Com

Cheers

Sorry, I was a week out!

Sorry guys, I was a week out! Those who know me may be surprised it was only a week, 11.39 is correct. Deepest grovel. Thanks for the information anyway, and the opportunity for a more civilised start.

You need to check your boat's draft too. From memory, I think the gate opens at 1.6m water. So if your boat draws more than this, the window is shorter.

Umm, yes it probably does, but on the very comfortable timings for Saturday I shall wait until high water or near. I came in for the winter and will be leaving for summer so my lack of understanding is forgivable, (anyway I forgive myself).

BTW anyone tested the curry? Probably make this a separate post.

.... and anyone using the Southampton Tide Tables 2005 issued by ABP should remember that they tried to be clever this year and converted the Summer Tides to BST but they only got it right for the first high in each tide. The second high is still in GMT. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Why not just buy this year's almanac? I really don't understand why vital information for a passage plan has to be asked for on a forum.... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

A. Because I'm lazy
B. Because the tidal stream data is on the boat

The fact that I haven't yet bought an almanac is not significant since the only item I can't get from last years are the tide tables off ybw. I will of course be buying one but it hasn't been worth a special trip.

I recently had a discussion about tidal gates to the west country that was really interesting, I think that in areas where people regularly navigate they can "in an instant" shed light on areas that still remain foggy on the almanac page. People enjoy sharing their knowledge and experience so why not ask about anything and everything whenever it comes to mind, and thereby help oneself whilst giving them the opportunity?

Sorry to have offended you, but really if one is only allowed to post items of significance on Scuttlebut there ain't going to be much to read!!!
