Southern Water Hosepipe ban starts 5th April

Some interesting twists in there.
Growing food to feed yourself - no dice. Someone growing food to sell to you - no problem.

Drive cleaning company - no ban... drive cleaning company that also tidies up the garden and mows the lawn - ban.

Washing your own car with a hosepipe - ban... paying someone else to do it with a hosepipe - no ban.

on 37 - cleaning the decks seems like it'd be fine (minimises risk of a slip and fall) - could you argue that using a jetwash on the bottom is an H&S issue as growth there can slow a boat down meaning it might miss a tidal gate, get caught by bad weather or otherwise come a cropper where they might not have were the boat performing at its best?

Their web site is still saying "no restrictions planned" for my central Southampton postcode.

Pete

I'd not spotted the postcode ref; so I put my code in and get:

Your water may be supplied by Portsmouth Water. Please check with them regarding restrictions in your area.

so I check and get : No Hosepipe Ban at Portsmouth Water.

Boat in here then wash as much as you like!

I don't think there has EVER been a hosepipe ban in Portsmouth Water area ... and certainly not in the 40+ years I've been here. Water is MUCH cheaper than Southern Water also :)

Unfortunately the water on Emsworth Pontoon is still turned off for the winter, so can't even fill up with cans :(

Herein lies the problem when our all-knowing leaders don't realise that privatisation in the sense of turning a government monopoly into a non-government monopoly or an oligopoly is NOT the same as opening it up to a competitive market.

It's great if you've got a decent company that doesn't leak half the water away while charging sky-high prices, but if you're in an area where maintenance is poor and prices are high - well, sorry... you're "SoL" unless you move.
