Southern Thames Estuary Tides

An experienced Broom Ocean 37 owner once told me if I enter the tidal Thames an hour before high tide I can get all the way down to Medway or Margate or perhaps even Ramsgate (I would welcome advice on were to moor up). This means going out I should pass under Hammersmith Bridge at about 09:45 on Sat 31st August.

But does the opposite apply when returning? Should I leave on Sunday morning an hour before the low tide wherever I am? The Sunday chart is also Hammersmith so it would be a few hours earlier on the Southern Thames Estuary which would be ridiculously early. Is it a choice between sailing in the dark or going upstream against the falling tide?

Any advice appreciated.
