ive just been down to the beach to look at the big waves and saw a sailing boat around 25ft break its chain and run into a few other smaller boats and beach itself. luckily it was only about 20 mins before high tide , so i waded out to badly tie a rope around the chain and stand on shore where i was blown dry..
i called the coastguard and they called the local thorpe bay yact club.

how do you refloat this boat (sheba) if she is at high tide line...is it a crane job

regards nick

Well done. I'm not sure what stage of the cycle we're at at the moment, will there be a higher tide in the coming weeks?

The owner could save themselves some money if so.

the yacht club chappie came along and took the rope off and said he,d call the owner. i was thinking of dropping the owner a letter saying i hope his boat was ok, but it may look like im after something i suppose. at least he's got his boat back and it didnt end up in the shippling lanes...

Fair point, on the other hand though one might be tempted to consider that he owes you at least a pint.

Why not just leave your details with the yacht club on the basis that you'd like to know if its all worked out okay. Then if he wants to track you down you can.

Its almost not possible to get insurance east of Southend Pier. I guess that is a combination of exposed drying anchorage and the vandalism.

Well done Nick, I am glad you were able to assist. Its nice to know there are still people out there who care.

Cheers

Jim
