I've been once and anchored in the Ray, I think it's called. It's the bit of water West of the Pier that leads to Leigh on Sea. You certainly see everything, the planes are right overhead and you don't have to worry about running out of water at low tide. As I remember the areas you can't anchor are quite well marked.

The NO GO area is well marked out and the CG patrol to stop you getting to close. but it depends on the tide as you may have to anchor on the edge of leigh creek in case you dry out.Any where infront of the casino is good as they seem to fly right over your head and low enough to part your hair.
Be aware that you may have to wash the avaition fuel off your boat after the show and if you have kids with you it dose get very noisy.
If you have a tender you could go ashore for ice cream , if not then the end of the pier gives deep water mooring.

If the weather is kind you should have a great day out.

We used to anchor just west of the pier, as far in as water allows. Its far better than watching it from the shore. We had a Vulcan once literally stand on the end of our mast and go straight up - Jeez what a noise!

You can also listen to the commentary on the radio. The Red Arrows bloke is a hoot!

We've done the airshow for the last few years but alas, can't make it this year as the boat is still in the yard being repaired. West of the pier is the perfect location. Holding is fine but it can get busy if the weather's good so try and get there early to get a good spot as close in as tide/draught allow. Restricted area is very clearly buoyed about 1-2 cables offshore but the views are the best ever. Be on the mobile to a friend (by chance?) as the Red Arrows go overhead....great conversation stopper.

After the show, unless you're planning on heading back straight away, Queenborough is a good overnight stop and easily entered at all states of the tide. The ebb out of the Medway can bang out at a fair rate of knots, though, so be prepared for some hard motoring if it's against you.

Have a great weekend. I'm jealous.

Chas
