Just received a quote from the Southampton Dry stack, for my boat. The quote is very competive compared with MDL and Universal marinas, and i was wondering if anyone else had used them.
I would like to know your experieces of the company good or bad. They have told me that from the Dry Stack it would take approx 30 mins to get to the Solent does anyone know if this is correct.
Any replies would be much appreiciated.

My old boat is next door in Drivers. Good value, 1/2 hr to solent about right, 6 knots in the Itcehn then you can open up once past the transit if Hythe pier.
Dust from the scrapyard next door an irritant. A 5 min walk to a reasonable chandlery, excellent cafe and OK pub. The operation looks professional though I haven't actually used it.

Never used them, but... As said, 1/2 hr to the Solent sounds about right. Fuel at Ocean Village on your way out.

The surroundings are not as salubrious as the Hamble which, I'd guess, is part of the reason for the lower prices. Lots of marine trades people nearby, at Shamrock Quay and elsewhere.

Near St Mary's (Southampton FC Ground) so traffic can be an issue when there are home matches - though not as bad a problem as when they were a Premiership club, and may be even less of an issue next season if they go down again /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif.

The facilities on site are fairly basic, I believe. All in all, a good deal if you're not too precious about bells and whistles.

Can you fuel at Ocean Village??, i always used to head over to Hythe

run by ex MDL ers who got fed up with the system so take away what were the bad bits?

Shamrock quay is a bit under what they have said so I would say spot on...but be careful and don't speed......as you go past VTS/dockhead, they have very powerful cameras on the top of the grain silos there that can see all the way up the Itchen to the bend just before the drystack, and the harbourmasters have been to known to stop people.

They have been running the drystack longer than the MDL ones bar Cobbs Quay.

No fuel at Ocean Village - you've got it at Itchen Marine just before going under the bridge or at Hythe.

It's an excellent set up, let down by the delays in getting your boat in the water. Unlike all the other dry stacks, they only have a pontoon that is parallel to the dock wall, which means a lot of handballing with ropes etc, resulting in the odd scrape now and again.

I looked at this when Poole Boat died. Looks and excellent place, was shown over the operation by very helpful people.

Was put off by the location, the backside of Southampton, and a long drag just to get to the Solent. Also seemed expensive. When I looked they seem to offer a good discount for the first year, which made them competative, then price rocketed. Was going to be about £1k more expensive than Poole. So staid in Poole. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
