Hello,

I would like to request whether someone might be able to look over a boat for me. I live on the Ascension Island in the South Atlantic and will be having a boat shipped over in the next month or so.

Have managed to find a rather internally scruffy Anderson 22 which is in my meager price bracket. Comes with outboard, road trailer, spare main, primary main and genoa which has just been repaired.

She is based at Ashlett Creek, Southampton and can of course pay a small fee.

Any thoughts or offers please let me know

You need to speak to Andy who posts here as Seajet. He is the world's expert on Anderson 22s and lives near Southampton.

Absolutely. He'll probably know the boat, too. Generally speaking I think they are pretty bomb-proof as long as the bolt holding the forestay tang on is stainless (easy to fix this on Ascension island) and if the keel plate is in good nick (that would be harder).

(I have a Hunter 490 which is basically the small version of an Anderson 22.)

The keel will need looking at closely as well, particularly just below the hull line. The winches/pulleys for raising the keel worth inspecting (Andy had his pulleys collapse).

Andy is under the weather at the moment unfortunately so cant help but thank you. I am sure he would be amused to be refered to as the world expert on Anderson 22s !

Doubt you would find anyone else with such an encyclopaedic knowledge of the Anderson 22 than Andy. Obviously you will have seen his association website which covers a lot.

Many thanks everyone for thoughts - Perhaps after all need to bite the bullet and pay for a pre-purchase survey, any recommendations?

When considering the distance she will be traveling on board the MOD vessel I think it will be worth the peace of mind.

Having said all that I couldnt pay very much for it so depends if someone can do this for a small fee (like aviation, small fees isnt something common in the marine world)!:nonchalance:
