Was intending to stop at South Stoke this afternoon opposite Sheridan Marine but there was a fishing match on; a little further on there were empty spots but one had a sign about private fishing/no mooring. It looked as though it was an old sign. Is this another traditional mooring area lost or just when a match is on?

just moor there and move if asked to, I was asked by some fisherman to move the other weekend, bit further up from there. Loads of free spots up that way.

From Ashmount down to the bird sanctuary is now rented by South Stoke Angling Club from the main landlord Oxford University. They have restricted all mooring and have the University's full backing who even paid for all the 'no mooring' signs.
Upstream from Ashmount to the Brunel Bridge has recently changed hands and I believe it is now owned by the Well Barn Estate. The fishing rights there have traditionally been 'owned' by London Anglers who have never enforced their 'rights' and only visit maybe twice a year. For the moment I have seen no evidence of any restrictions and things seem to be carrying on much as before when it was owned by the late Sheridan Thynne (Cousin to the Marquis of Bath).
As a matter of interest the South Stoke Shop closes a midday on a Sunday.

Came back down river about 6pm and the fishermen had gone but the sign, in a spot opposite where "I'm Dots" is moored, remained. It was a London Anglers Association sign. One hopes people won't be put off mooring there.

It's a couple of years since I was up there but I did notice that many of the old favourite spots were very much overgrown, some of the old saplings had turned into proper trees! It really was a beautiful and peaceful place to moor.
