I'm buying a wooden boat, 6ft draft, 14m loa. Am having a great deal of difficulty finding a swinging mooring that I could use all year round between Portsmouth & Plymouth - also my pockets are not bottomless! Any suggestions?

Try Gosport Boat Yard. They have lots of deep water moorings, even for 14m yachts. Not the prettiest mooring, Portsmouth Harbour, but they run a decent service, including water taxi for £1000 for 10m

3 places I\'ve used ...

... in the last 7 years, that have provided me with a medium-term deep-water mooring without a wait, are ...

Wicor Marine, Porchester nr Portsmouth, 01329 237112.
Yarmouth Harbour IOW, 01883 70321 (pile mooring).
Weir Quay Boatyard, Bere Alston nr Plymouth, 01822 840474 (but may not have any moorings capable of taking the weight).

Places are easier to find on the east coast, which are cheaper and where there are also mud berths in which a long keel boat can sit upright. There is often a weight limit on moorings and with a 14m boat you could have difficulty.
