We're beginning the Summer cruise next week- Thames round to Ramsgate,Sovereign, Brighton, Solent, Dartmouth etc.

Would appreciate local knowledge from you guys in the know, of where to buy best value diesel. It's around 1,000 to 1,200 litres on a refuel so bulk discounts help!

Avoid buying fuel in whole of Torbay area, including Dartmouth and Salcombe. Weymouth not too bad, Plymouth not too bad, but best to fuel in Solent (Lym YH as suggested) before going west.

Worth a mention here perhaps, that a guide to what farmers and others are paying for red diesel delivered in can be found on the web site:-

http://farmingforum.co.uk

Because farmers claim VAT back, prices mentioned exclude this. Included, this adds two or three pence to the prices. I am fairly certain oil suppliers will deliver as little as 250 litres. Have many owners had fuel delivered direct to their boat I wonder? See no reason why not. Or do some marinas object?

Worth considering I would have thought, considering the massive margins from the prices mentioned on this thread.

Duncan - Your "my boat for sale" links to the ybw.com front page. Not sure if this is post-modern ironicism or you have linked to the wrong thing. Just thought I'd mention it.

No one but no one, buys fuel in Dartmouth or Salcolmbe. It's a closed shop and around 65p, though few reports as no one buys there any more. You would do better at brixham marina, if desperate.

For the sort of quantity your looking for, it might be worth a look in to Plymouth. Or maybe some one here will give you there number. The barge used to be called Bouncer, but they have a new one now. The phone no is on the left hand side on your way up the Cattewater.

I would fill by tanker, but in 8 years, I've never found anywhere suitable in the west country to unload one. Less you get down as far as Newlyn, where there there waiting, on the dock.

Falmouth fuel barge is fairly ok, but used to be cheap'ish. Try pound notes!!

To be honest, I'm struggling myself. Down there tomorrow in Plymouth. Can some one give us an update on Plymouth prices????

The only fuel I've bought down Plymouth way was at Lee Mill Services /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Bristol City Docks will allow you to have a tanker visit your boat as long as you tell he office first.
Three or four boats together?
My problem is the lack of petrol. Have to take the short trip to Portishead and pay around £1.25!

Sealine 215 (petrol) for sale - sub £15k (is this allowed?) /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I was talking to someone who filled up in Dartmouth earlier this season and paid 45ppl. It would appear the barge is open to negotiation, and obviously has a large margin in which to bargain.

£1.25 /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Take a trip over the channel to Penarth Marina, I paid £1.15 p/l for petrol on Saturday which isn't too bad considering the Tesco's up the road is currently 96p/l for unleaded and £1.01 for super.
