A few of us have had discussions about getting a small boat cruising club going, except we don't want it to be a club or exclusive to small boats.
So, if you're based on the South Coast and have a small sailing boat up to, say, 100 feet long (sails optional), would you be interseted in joining our cub that doesn't exist? And cruise to pastures new (or old). It could your vessel is unsuitable for overnighting, in which case you could bunk up with those of more headroom. It could be you've never spent a night on the hook and would feel more confidence if you did it with others that don't know what they're doing either. You could be lonely. You could be sociable. Or something else.
Any thoughts?

Have you looked at Port Solent Yacht club?

We joined recently. Why? Because its a really friendly club. Nice people, RYA affiliated, good programme of rallies and socials and costs virtually nothing to join.

Oh and you don't need to be based in Port Solent.

Surely this is the forum burgee club. Anyone is welcome who has the burgee, or anyone who recognises it, or anyone who says "nice flag!", or anyone who enquires "what's that silly mouse flag?" or anyone who says "got any whisky?" or even those poor souls asking "got any whiskey?"

I'll even allow people asking for pear cider as I seem to have 3 bottles on board for no apparent reason.

But never the Bacardi crowd...they are ALL trouble:eek:

Some members of the YBW forums have already formed an internet based Club for Small Boats and have occasional rallies and meets in the Solent and elsewhere already. and they are usually very successful.

When I had last boat, the idea really appealed to me with some racing. Not round the "cans" but more fun/ causal passage races with no real prizes...

Yarmouth to Poole? Cowes to the Needles and back... All with tide so even a Mirror offshore could compete..

Certainly for me any event that can involve a 5/6 year old girl to encourage sailing is a good thing...

Reminder to self must put something in post to get forum flag...

Great idea, I am a member of two informal, non forum Solent area groups where people just e-mail a circular to other members saying they are planning to go out this weekend, anybody want to come. One is made up of about 20 people the other about 60 - seems to work very well :)

If you leave that pretentious Solent mob and sail round to the civilized East Coast you will be very welcome to join the East Coast Meeting..

There is really nothing quite like ditch crawling up the mudbanks:rolleyes:

Pretentious? Moi? Pas du tout!

Besides my boat draws too much to swaddle around the east coast swatchways. I sail in the Solent 'cos that's where I live.

If you're running out of chums you'd better put my name on the list - I could use more folk laughing at my anchoring skills. I'm a sarf-east mobo'er so don't expect my company at your weekend bashes in deepest Torquay though.
