This year when Solent CG annonces the weather transmissions - its on the lines of Vessels S of IOW and in the solent Area and to the west of Portland but south of St catherines and to the East of etc. etc. should listen channel xx and Vessels west of the Needles but north of etc. should listen channel xx and so on.

My question is it seems what ever option I listen to I either get nothing or a badly broken up transmission.

Not a major issue as Navtex shows all the forecasts but I was wondering if anyone else has the same problem or if not whether than can clarify which channel you should listen to !

Happens very frequently with Brixham, go to channel, hear the inshore forecast then all quiet until they go nto the firng warnings etc. The main forecast simply does not get transmitted, been happening for years.

Had no trouble this summer, correction, mid-year winter. If I'm uncertain what channel to use I set the Radio to search and pick whichever's best. We got Solent from Brighton to Weymouth.

Glad it's not just me. Everything else from Solent CG is as clear as a bell but the weather braodcasts are always poor reception. I suppose it's because they switch from all arials to one specific arial.

I've just returned from the E.Coast and listening to the CG forecasts isn't a problem, save one, Dover transmit at the same time and they ask boaters East of Dungeness to listen Ch 86 ~ Thames ask boaters to listen ch 86 if they are south of Walton or near their Bradwell aerial ~ result Dover and Thames talking over themselves, you get to hear the forecast because Thames stomps all over Dover but I'd have thought someone at Ofcom/MCA would have realised what would happen when they handed out the channels?

Storm bound in Brixham, earlier this year, I decided to get to the bottom of this. On the first visit, I was fobbed off with. It's all my fault, then this technical reason, or maybe that. there was another couple walking in to ask about radio forecasts as we left.

Then I happened round the HM office, casually chatting. He said he had not heard a weather forecast in months!!

So back I goes to CG. This time they fess up.

They have been told from on high. To turn most aerials off when advising the weather Chanel, xyz on 16. Apparently, so they were told. The weather forecast is only needed for boats at sea. Apparently every one has Navtex anyway, so radio weather is low priority.

Brixham CG ask, if we can publicize, the problem as there hands are tied. I sent a message to Keith, for MBY. But so far ne reply.

Course then theres the other problem, of nowt happens on channel xx, xy or xxx. Thats been going on for years.
