I am looking for a boatyard in which to keep a 21 foot boat, which requires some refitting, from now until lifting in next Spring. It would be useful to be able to overnight on the boat sometimes, good public transport links would also be useful. I'm imagining a South Coast location between Chichester and Poole, Southampton area is closest although I know Portsmouth better. Right facilities more important than cheapest price.

Kemp's Quay?

Nice friendly yard, lots of people working on their boats and a few people living aboard.

There's a railway station nearby, and it's in Southampton so I imagine there are buses.

Prices less than the big marinas but not rock-bottom; you did say that wasn't a priority. All prices by the foot so with your relatively small boat things shouldn't be too bad.

I like Swanwick for loads of reasons, one of them the locals, another the high chandlery and another the links, transport and pubs. There is building work onsite this winter so the facilities are porta cabin - so not up to usual standards. So you might get the all of the above but with better shower / toilet facilities over the river at Deacons.

Foulkes Yard / Chandlery Barge in Bursledon, upriver from Deacons is just great, and dead handy for the M27. Nice prices friendly staff and owner. New toilet and shower facilities and hopefully next year a Bar. Few minutes walk from Bursledon Station on the Portsmouth - Southampton line, or buses to Southampton / Fareham / Gosport.

Phone Sara @ Kemps Quay. Friendly, helpful, not too dear and you can stay aboard.
Spent some time there last year getting my boat ready. Alan will help you, engineering on site, sail maker close.

+1 for Quay Lane.
Although it doesn't look like much, it is always the cheapest yard in the PBO Marina guide, has knowledgeable and friendly staff and you can have power/water as/when you need it.
They don't mind DIY repairs and offer sound advice when needed. The liftin/lift out and craneage fees are very good too.
