As a matter of interest, have any forumites been on any RYA sailing courses recently and can recommend a sailing school, preferably in Devon?
A colleague wants to do a competent crew course and has rather than pick a school at random has asked if anyone has any suggestions.

I understand there's one in Dartmouth (Dart Sailing??) that conducts all its courses on a fleet of Rassy's - I've not used them personally but I have heard they are very good.

Think there's 2 D'mouth based outfits. I did a week on the one that uses Rassys partly to see wha they were like - quite nice joinery but nothing special, winches undersized; instructor not too experienced but that could happen elsewhere. Names changed recently along with staff maybe. If I do another course will prolly use Hamble School of Yachting again or give Southern Sailing a try. Both in Solent so not as pretty as Devon. Dunno if Ron McInnes up in Troon is still operating, but I found his style of tuition brilliant - I know, diffrent country.

Performance Yachting or Plymouth Sea School in Plymouth.
Fowey have a School as well. All good.

I get employed by all of them as an (independent) RYA examiner so I can't say which is the best. You won't be disappointed by your experience at any of them and your experience actually depends who the other course members and instructor are for the week almost as much as the choice of school.
