Got some friends coming back from south Africa tonight and I thought that it would be nice to greet them with some typical south African phrases… the real lingo – how do South African friends normally say hello? Or exchange pleasantries ? (resist temptation to set me up here).

Howzit is the general greeting different parts of SA have a different slang dialect. In Natal/kwazulu a lot of Zulu has crept into the vernicular so you could say 'Khunjane baba' or 'Weh OH' or 'Weh Madote' or in the dutch Hoosit my bra. If they ask you how you are reply 'No well no fine' or 'lekker like a cracker' or 'safe like a pipe skyf' or 'piele' or going like a boeing. it goes on and on.

Hey ongolo do you have Hells angels in SWA. When I was in Grootfontein they used to ride bicycles. Just joking. Are you near luderitz. I have some guys working on the diamond dredgers there.

Luderitz? That place was just a church on a rock and a load of sand dunes when I was there, has it changed?
