reading again my previous thread on the black water tank, I realized that I still need to get a level monitor! Simple tank level monitors and gauge are in the 100euro range. An ultrasonic sensor is generally considered better (as in not blocking...) and having a few GMI10s one of which will be in the bow cabin means I can monitor and operate the diaphragm pump from the same place easily without having extra gauges. Replicating the info through the N2K network is obviously a plus.

Now the best (and only!) place I can get them from seems to be the US at 180odd USD (70USD shipping...) a piece. I may need 3 (black, diesel and water). Is there any other option in the EU (no extra taxes) that is not silly price?

I'm after one of these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Maretron-...8504?pt=US_Weather_Meters&hash=item258ba86388

cheers

You may want to consider these, UK made and N2K certified, not ultrasonic but no moving parts to foul or block and very reliable, I have fitted a few with good results even in black water tanks.

cactusnav and greenham regis in UK sell maretron stuff but at quite high margin prices. All a bit annoying because they don't carry any stock; they take your money and then order the gear from maretron. So they get the margin for adding zero value.

I love maretron gear and have quite a lot of it but I'd buy more if they sold it directly from US or had EU dealers who actually held stocks, or something.

I've got a £3k maretron wish list but have held off ordering it until I can find a way not to pay inflated UK prices. Maybe buy it in US on next trip and have it sent to hotel? But if you find a better source please tell me!

FWIW my shopping list is
2x FFM100
4x M1ASP-2R-E8 (flow sensors)
1x TMP100
2x TP-EGT-1
4x TP-AAP-1
1x USB100
1x IPG100
1x DCR100

Also, I do not think the GMI10 lets you configure your own screens. So unless it has "black tank level" as a pre-loaded screen (it might; I haven't checked) then you cannot display black tank level. HOWEVER, if you buy a maretron IPG100 and Cat5-cable connect that to an onboard router, you can do all your tank level monitoring from an iPad. If you buy a DCR100 you can even switch on the black tank pump from your iPad. (The iPad needs the free app called N2kview mobile)

I purchased urea dosing unit which was part of complete diesel engine research test rig, out bid the scrap man. Found boxes of Maretron level sensors and flow sensors amongst the spares, put the used stuff in the scrap. Seemed a shame to put new boxed items in the skip so stuck them on Ebay and was amazed to get purchasers bidding from all over Europe, made decent money, just irritated that I dumped the used stuff!

Thanks for the pointer David, IF someone would reply and give me a quote, it would be really nice... Registered on their site yesterday, no reply as yet :(

OK J, I will if I find something, atm it seems that you can get them from ebay at reasonable(ish) prices but you may get stung by tax (at least here)

Yes, if you do read the garmin manual it doesn't mention it. BUT if you go to the change history you'll see that it does fresh/grey/black/bait/whathaveyou tanks in the newer firmware releases, so will be fine.
BTW, It also does support AutoAnchor 601, so can be used as an intelligent anchor monitor with alarms etc. Sounds very promising, and again if I could find a company selling a 601 at a reasonable price I'd get one! 601 is a NMEA0183 device and although the sensor will be a bit tricky to mount on my Lofrans Tigres, it should be doable.

very nice Paul, very nice throwing a load of stuff in the skip!
