Can anyone recommend any online sources for Volvo parts?

I need the electronics & lights bit for the control panel, but I cant seem to find it anywhere online. I have been quoted about £250 at the local Volvo dealer, which is rediculous for such a tiny little thing.

Hi, if you find one let me know. I have had similar problems and in the end I had to replace the whole control panel for 350... after a failure which resulted in a busted alternator (another 270!) /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Re: Source for Volvo parts ..... silly question ...

Does it really need to be Volvo ? Isn't it possible to use generic bits ??

Tried second-hand?

Have you tried asking installers of new engines whether they have a second-hand unit? Suppliers of, for example, Beta engines often replace Volvo engines, so should have some control panels.

Thanks for the links, I'll get quotes from them.

Good idea about engine installers, I didn't think of that. I'm pretty sure it would have to be the exact Volvo part for this, I imagine that these electronic units would be very specific, maybe I could get a complete replacement generic panel for cheaper though, do they make generic panles that could link up to the Volvo wires without much difficulty?

I've had a lot of success with Marine Parts Express www.marinepartsexpress.com

They are in the US, but prices are *much* cheaper. Delivery times are 7-9 days, which is OK if you get organised. You can look up part numbers online, and get prices to compare instantly.

Add approx US$25 for postage, then add 17.5% VAT (Parcelforce will colect this from you when the parts arrive) to get to total bill. Cheaper than UK prices everytime...

Electronic warning module...

The little printed circuit module is a very simple device, and I'd imagine it's common to many of the Volvo Penta instrument panels. The instrument panels themselves are basically suitable for most VP engines. You should be able to get a used instrument panel which would just be a straight swap.

Thanks pmcdermott, that is exactly what I was looking for. That site is going straight in my favorites. Their quote is £106. Even adding 25% for VAT (Swedish tax) it still comes out at around half the price.

So I'm going to end up getting a Swedish part shipped back to Sweden and still pay way less than I would here, how is this possible. I wonder how long these European retailers will survive, it cant be that long before people realise they are getting robbed daily. It just drives me crazy that I cant get a reasonable quote in the country, or even continent, I live in.

You're right about it being a simple device pvb, when my brother and I took it out and condemed it as the guilty party in the control panel problem, he guesed it would cost £25 to replace, I guessed £100 including Volvo's 'you're screwed and you have to buy it from us' markup. We just stared blankly at the shop assistent as he quoted £250. I wish I could get one second hand, but I dont really know where to start hunting for it.
