Source for second hand Hanks

Evening all,

Ive come to the point where I need to get my hands on a large number of piston hanks for 8mm wire, and the cost brand new is inhibitive for the number I need. Surely with the number of furler conversions going on there must be heaps of unwanted hanks around. My local sail loft bins them all so no luck there. Anyone on here know of a place that keeps them?

Changing to furling gear happened a generation ago! Almost universal now so doubt there is a source of large quantities of hanks. High price not unconnected with lack of demand!.. Most, like mine will be in lofts attached to sails that might come in handy one day, like one of mine which served as an awning over my patio.

You could try Aladdins Cave chandlery Barge at Bursledon, Nr Southampton; I don't expect they will be cheap but worth trying a haggle! Try them on their Phone 02380 406349 they may have a website too.

Westway Sails, Ivybridge, Devon. They may have old secondhand sails which are time expired.

Trawl some boat jumbles.
Check eBay for unwanted old sails with hanks.

What bad timing. I donated about 20 to Burnham Sailing Club jumble sale at 4.30 yesterday. Can't really go and nick them back.

thanks for the suggestions all, will make some phone calls. Ill be needing about 100-150 hanks over the next 6 months to sort all my sails out, which is working out a little pricey as it is! Ill keep digging

The chandlery barge at Hamble is good, Riverside boatyard, other side from force4 etc. The "Fresh fish" side. Better to phone or visit than look at online.
