I need a replacement ignition switch for my Nicholson 30. ( perkins diesel inboard ) The only markings on it are GERMANY and the number 50988. I am in the process of fixing the boat and it was supplied with no ignition key. Does anyone know a source for these? Any info most gratefully received.

Theres a key hidden somewhere I bet. Or just hanging on the seacock :)

If you buy a new switch you'll probably need to know the correct sequence and connections. Maybe a diagram in the workshop manual otherwise note the numbers of the terminals and get one that matches.

Have searched high and low with no luck. Have now taken the switch apart and found that there is no way in which the barrel could be changed to suit a new key.

Take the assembled switch to a good locksmith, perhaps he can identyfy and cut new ones failing that, any big auto electrical workshop will be able to supply a simular new one for you.

most boat engine ignition switches are ones off plant eg. dumper trucks and are all keyed the same, therefore go to a place that deals in plant and ask for a key and that my well do the trick.

Hi. I also needed a new ignition switch part number 50988 and found one here http://mgjuddltd.co.uk/ign_sw.php cost about £36 inc VAT and delivery. Can you tell me if you are replacing the switch because of a lost key or a problem?

I have had an occasional problem starting my Vetus, so replacing the switch (after checking all the usual places) before moving onto the solenoid if this new switch does not do the trick.
