Has anyone on here ever made sound signals whilst anchored in fog? I had 6 hours of . _ . today from a container ship 6 miles away.
No, as I've never been anchored in fog somewhere that passing traffic was likely. In particular I'm likely to be too shallow for anything large and fast to physically reach me, which obviously wasn't true for your container ship.
I suppose if I did anchor in thick fog somewhere that traffic was likely (lower reach of the Beaulieu, say) it would be sensible to sound a signal. My VHF can produce a synthesised bell sound at the regulation intervals from the speaker mounted under the radar on the mast. I might or might not need earplugs - some sounds disturb me and some don't - but I'm used to that since I sleep in the aft cabin and need them whenever there are waves coming from astern.
