After a few comments about messages not received/seen/copies kept etc can I proffer a few words:
If you go to your User CP top left nad then Edit Options, you will see that there is a section that deals with messages. You can tick a box so that you get a pop-up window when there is a new message. You can tick a box to automatically save sent messages. You can even have an email notification too.
While you'll there change your Message Editor from Basic to Standard and then you can do smilies and links and pics.
Save the changes and da-dah
