Still perusing the EU for a smallish flybridge such as the Princess 35/388 or Fairline Sedan 36 and decided to look outside of my UK built comfort zone.
Guy Couach boats seem to proliferate in the listings and many in the 11- 13 metre range produced in the early 1990s appear to offer a great deal of boat for the euro asking prices.
A wide range of power plants fitted Man/Cat/Iveco and of course VP. Couple with GMs as well, but not for my type of just round the corner boating perhaps.
Question is apart from usual caveats regards simple old age and previous owner care were these boats any worse/better than there UK produced boat.
Photos indicate a rather better appointed interior than usual on UK boats of same era.
All comments and observations welcome.
Wish I could afford to run those engines and around only 60K landed in UK.. ?

Looked at them myself .... Good quality builder, solid hulls and well laid out IMHO .... and once you get to the 1401, I do like the door with access to the side deck ...
Particularly like the fact that they do have decent fuel capacity ... (think I have seen over 3,000L on the 14M)

Sunseeker marketeers could learn a lot from this broker about how to dress a boat for photography.

No poncy flower arrangement and chintzy bone china cups or champagne flutes in the saloon shot - they've gone for the ultimate seduction. A scruffy bin, an old cockpit canopy on the settee and some old rags.

You mark my words - next year all the big boys will be marketing boats this way!

I'm obviously a peasant - £40,000 is enough to me that I might spend five precious seconds chucking the bin and the canopy into the cockpit while I took the photo. I might even move the rags, that's how low rent I am! :D

I had a 1986 Guy Couch 6.6m Cabin Cruiser (Pesche Promenade) which I bought in 2006 and kept it for 5 years.
The build quality of these boats is superb. Far better than the modern Merry Fishers of about the same size.
One difficulty I found is with the IVECO/AIFO engine, the engine, being the same as what was fitted in the Iveco Van Range was difficult to get parts for unless you had a registration number.
The other difficulty is if you have one in the UK and want to sell, as Guy Couch is not a recognised make I had to virtually give mine away.
I would not hesitate to buy a bigger one and they do seem cheap in France.
When I bought mine I was living in France and if I was looking now I would try and get the French Magazine "Announces" as it is full of boats for sale.
I believe that in France Guy Couch boats (justifiably) had the reputation like Hardy here.

GC made really nice boats. I investigated a few last when I was sourcing for a boat. GC made vessels also for the French navy and the heritage is visible. Incredibly strong build, big tanks, fire pumps!! Nice 18-19 m mid owners cabin boats are on the market to very interesting prices. I would buy one! Built for the sea.
