The person who looks after our club tractor is not available at present and we need to top up engine oil and possibly gearbox oil.

The vehicle was serviced not long ago and I've been given to understand that the engine oil is standard 15/40w for diesels and that the gearbox oil is either API 30 or 40,

The tractor is a Ford 2000, can anyone comment and advise if API 30 is interchangeable/mixable with API 40

All sounds about right if I remember correctly the 40 is simply a little more viscous than the 30 and would be fine in this use, particularly as the weather is now a little warmer.

Always remember any oil (in this situation) is better then none ! the only concerns start to occur when mixing (some) synthetic and mineral based oils - this should not be an issue here.

I really would not worry about the slight differences a 10w difference is academic for a tractor

gearbox oil is normally an EP 90, or UTO (universal tractor oil) if there are hydraulic services involved. Ford 200o is old, so use UTO.

I own a Ford 2000 (1966) and also have a handbook!

It says :

Engine Oil SAE 10/W30
Transmission SAE 20/W30 or SAE 80EP

I just use Universal Tractor Oil and it's run well for many years!
