Hi All

I am thinking about booking a holiday and both myself and swmbo would like to go somewhere that feels like time has stood still, a place where we could walk around little harbours with old fishing boats moored up and little old men and women watching the world go by with not a care in the world, no flash cars or loud music no teenagers p11sed out their tree etc etc

So can anyone suggest a nice quiet tranquil place for a week or two to recharge the body batteries

cheers

There is a quiet Hotel near Me, with a pool and Sauna and stuff and a Breakfast to die for and boats to rent/go afloat, rollocks to going through customs and having to get to an Airport 4 hours before you take off and go through Security and then through 'Duty Free' and all that Crape and it aint cheaper than Tescos anyway!

If you've never been, look at Port Isaac - Cornwall. It absolutely fits your description above. You could even take your own boat...

Country Yokels nearly speak English too.:p

I only went there once, but never forgot it. :encouragement:

Our memories of Greece are lovely quiet waterside tavernas with great fish. Nothing like a moonlit dinner with the water lapping a couple of feet away. Another great location if you like peace and quiet is Northern Cyprus.

I would second Croatia - but go north to istria rather than to the south

Istria is much more original and unspoilt - with exactly what you want. Quiet islands and little villages.

Fly and charter out of Pula. I have some guides etc if you want any further info. Been two heads on the bounce and it's fab.

Greece comes in many guises so choose carefully. I'd recommend some where like Longos on Paxos for a very laid back feel. A few tavernas and a couple of bars, a small fishing harbour and not much else.... lovely island all round with no- where of interest to lager swilling louts who have spoiled so many places. short ferry ride from Corfu - check it out. If you want real backwater stuff try Othoni island northern Ionian.

fully agree, but I guess choosing carefully applies to many other places...
FE, parts of Corfu had lots of problems with lager louts from the 80ies, islands nearby were unaffected.

However, it's not that difficult to establish if a place/island is touristy in the bad way or not and proceed (google's your friend usually, forum will confirm ;) ). Further, there's so many of them, you're bound to find one you like :D
You definitely avoid the ones you hear a lot of (Cyclades, Mykonos, Santorini, Paros, Naxos, blah blah...) and go off the main routes.

cheers

Yes, Greece can be very very quiet.

My parents have what i can only desrbie as a retreat in a place called Trikeri (spelt Tpikepi I think in Greek)

Vas should know the place.

Just a few houses, a couple of tavernas and a donkey :)

If you want a place away from everything, you can rent a small villa there. http://www.trikeri-villas.gr/homepage/

My parents dont rent theirs but I can give you the low down on transport etc.
