Sorry I know this subject has been covered over and over, However my question is not how to or what type to use but a rough idea as to how much I'm going to need on a 30' fin keel with a 9' 3" beam and a 5' draft. Going by the on line hull calculators I've got from 17sqm to 22sqm. I've also read that 5l will be enough for two coats with the average 5l tin covering 25sqm. So is there anyone with a similar hull size give me a rough idea as to how much I might need.

Agree your figures. I did two good coats on a First 29 plus 3rd coat round leading edges with 5l and had .5l left.
The manual for my SO32 - a beamy boat - says the wetted area is 22sq.m. matching your calculation too. So I expect to do it with 5l of Jotun.

Thats encouraging I was hoping to to get away with one 5L tin of jotun as I've only found it in 5L tins so far and don't really want to have to buy 10L. I think it will be a case of buy one and see how far I get.

I'd hate to put 10 litres on a 30 ft boat: you'd soon have a horrible thick build up.

I aim to use 2.5 litres on one fairly thinly rollered coat of good quality AF each year on a 35 foot fin-keeler, this allows an extra coat around six inches down from the waterline and on the leading edge of keel and rudder. I wet-sand lightly back each year before re-antifouling. This keeps the AF build-up down, and works ok for me in a moderately high fouling area April-Oct.

Some years a 2.5 can doesn't quite do it and I have to buy one more litre. I use Seajet Shogun, but others around use Micron with similar results. The paint makers encourage two coats, but they are selling the paint, and don't have to get it off again after a few years.

Hi I'm not planning on putting on 10L just trying to establish how many tins I might need to buy in order to give me two coats and a third on the leading edges. Judging from the replies so far I think I will get just the one 5L tin.

My plan is two antifoul her at the end of Feb , Lauch her and leave her in until spring next year then strip her back and epoxy coat then copper coat.

I have a very similar sized boat and; 5 litres gives me two coats and a bit to spare when using a roller, when using a brush there is very little to spare.

Thank you for all your advise. Ive just finished antifouling and i've used just about 5L which was enough for two coats plus a third on the leading edges and just about enough left to cover where the pads are. We gave it a good wet rub down followed by two coats of Jotun Vinygaurd 88 primer all over and then the Jotun seaforce 30 antifoul And used Trilux 33 for the boot topping.

2 x 2.5 litres

Hi

We manage 36' sloop with deep keel (medium rather than long keel) with 2 x 2.5 L tins and that does use up every last drip for 2 coats and a bit extra on leading edges.

OK, here's something to muddy the waters. I generally use about 7 litres of Micron on my 35 foot long-keel yacht. BUT, it lasts 2 years with the boat in the water all the time, so (when lift-out charges are taken into account) it actually works out much cheaper than antifouling annually. If your boat is marina-based, this is a routine you should try.
