So now that the Cornish...

Have been granted minority status...

Will the good people of the Dengie start to campaign for similar rights?

(PS, just seen my typo in the title. but I can't edit it)

I'm a bit fed up with the idea of minorities. What do the Cornish want? Economic prosperity, decent education, transport that works..........don't we all? Black, Gay, Cornish, we have many more things in common than the things that make us 'minorities'. There was a recent league of 'gay friendly councils'. My gay friends want the pot holes mended and the bins emptied on time so what is exclusively 'gay friendly' about that?. As long as minorities do not suffer discrimination, categorising people isn't - at least in my view - very helpful. Let's sail into Falmouth and enjoy the unique experience of Cornwall. But don't think of the people as 'a minority'.

Indeed what you say is so true.

Last year, when we were sailing to new waters the one thing we found was that people are all the same wherever you go. Little boys play with little boys whilst the girls played with other girls. Teenagers look and act the same in whatever language. Everywhere you go there are shops selling food as well as places selling clothes to wear. They all have some sort of church or relegious places. Old folks act the same in French and English. Heck, everyone goes to the toilet.

Yet we also saw the people seem to need a sense of place to identify themselves. So there are signs in Bretton and French as well as the local Asturian lingo as well as Spanish. I wonder what Dengie language is like?

It was a joke thread. But on a serious note, I feel there is an imbalance that Corhish, Welsh, Brettons Saviose etc all get some sort of special status on account of thenaccident of their birth. Yet the likes of thee and me are ignored.
