My Garmin 128 stopped receiving satellites last year, so replaced aerial at cost of £80. Worked fine.
at the start of this season it took about 10 mins each startup to acquire satellites. Sent it back to Garmin with old aerial to test. After a couple of weeks I phoned to check that they had got it. They gave me a job no. and I phoned on Monday to check progress. Spoke to a nice chap called Gareth Thomas who said that he couldn't find a fault so had replaced my 4 year old unit with a new one!
When the box arrived today there was a new aerial as well (rail mount). I phoned him to check this and he said that as a new unit came with an aerial he thought I might like a new one too!
This certainly shut this cynical old (ish) git up!
Is this Christmas?
Just thought you would like to know..........

I agree.
I recently had to send stuff back to three manufacturers after a lightning strike.
Simrad returned my VHF in 3 days, fixed, no charge.
I posted my Nasa Navtex & log @ 3pm & had a faxed report by 10.30 next day and received repaired Navtex & new log within 3 days.
Garmin have a 3 week backlog for repair, but told me that straight away, and Gareth sent me an Email yesterday saying new Gps 128 is on way.

Good service from all three and from Royal Mail [if that's what they are called now]
I shall now test the services of my insurers.
Dan

That's certainly great news but if you are really at a loss for finding a cycnical angle on this on then maybe we can worry that your old 128 with "no fault" might find its way back onto the shelves in a new box some time!

and there\'s the rub..

tell us how you get on.

My impression is that the insurers are currently pulling every trick in the book to evade payment - quite a change from the past.

Of course underwriting results have been dreadful for all of them and their investments have all nose-dived so they're dreadfully under-resourced and they haven't yet been able to hike up premium income to get into profit.
